Honey Tower
During a semester-long project, my partner Anya Peterman and I designed a modular set of hexagonal organizers based upon user and market research conducted at the beginning of the semester. With the goal of producing and selling ten units at the annual Winter Market and working with a $150 budget, we developed a system that stacks vertically and allows for flexible configuration. This project emphasized research-driven design, sustainability, and cost-effective fabrication.

Duration: 15 weeks

Semester-long research-based project
Honey Tower is a modular vertical organization system designed to elevate any workspace. Each pack includes three functional modules: a door module for keeping items tucked away, open shelves for quick-access storage, and a dual-sided model, featuring a whiteboard, corkboard, and an opening at the top for additional storage. Designed around our research into people's work and study spaces, we discovered a lack of desk space. This is why Honey Tower’s units are designed to stack vertically; to help organize efficiently while leaving maximum workspace.
Concept Ideation
We started by coming up with broad topics to start our research. We chose our top three and narrowed it down from there. We ended up choosing to research organization and storage
Enthographic Research
We chose five different areas to research to ensure a wide variety of data. After conducting our research, we put together a presentation and presented it to a panel of professional designers
“Big Brainstorm”
Through an in-class activity, our classmates helped us create 30 concept sketches based on our insights from the research presentation
Sketches
Working together, we went through five rounds of sketches. We started with 30 and narrowed down and refined our favorites.

Rough prototypes
Narrowed down to two main concepts: a hexagonal desk organizer and a portable work station
“Design Freeze”
We presented our top 2 concepts to a panel of professional designers. After, they chose which concept we should continue with.
After iterating on different functions for the hexagons, we chose three modules: a door, open shelves, and a whiteboard/corkboard duo with an optional opening at the top.

Branding
Using Adobe Illustrator and Canva, we created a logo and tag to include on our packaging.
Packaging
We repurposed a string to wrap around the towers that we intentionally stacked together. We also included a goodie bag “starter pack”, containing a dry erase marker, push pins, and the keys to hold the towers together.
Winter Market!
We sold out during the Winter Market, making a total of $525, which goes towards funding IDSA! Our Honey Towers sold for $75 a piece.
Design Media
For a separate class, we created a product video showcasing our products
