EarringAID
This traditional hearing aid is designed to appear more discreet by taking the form of an earring. For this class project, I was tasked with creating a wearable piece based on a 3D scan of my model, resulting in a custom design that integrates function with personal style.
Spring 2025
Duration: 1 week
Type: Individual concept sketch, 3D scanning
Initial Research
I started my research with four basic categories: anatomy of existing hearing aids, standard design, current innovative designs, and existing earring forms I thought might work to incorporate into a hearing aid.
Ideation Sketches
These were my initial concept sketches, where I tested different earring forms to see what I thought looked best and might be the most realistic if I were to physically design a model.
3D Scan
Using the digital app, Polycam, on my phone, I took a 3D scan of a classmate to use as a template for my design. This took a few tries as this program was new to me, but I ended up with a full 360-degree scan.
Iteration
This was the form I went with, and I started rendering the colors, but I wasn’t in love with them. I thought the renderings didn’t look great, and it looked like the earring was just sitting in front of the ear and not actually attached.
Final Rendering
This is the final form, as I rendered it both on the ear and the hearing aid in full.
Presentation
To present my final rendering I created a poster with call outs
